Kenyon v. Miami University -- February 1, 2008

OXFORD, OHIO - The Miami University men's swimming and diving team came from behind to tie the Lords of Kenyon College in dramatic fashion. Senior Ryan McHugh came from behind as he anchored the final 400 free relay team to ultimately tie the score at 118.5-118.5.

The RedHawks struggled at the start, but came back with a series of first-place finishes. Senior Paul Ricard earned two firsts as he finished the 200 free in his fastest time of the season, clocking in at 1:43.11 and in the 500 free with a time of 4:38.52. McHugh also added two victories as he finished the 50 free in :21.25 and the 100 free in :45.55.

Freshman Jason Hass added points for Miami as well when he earned a second-place finish and a new best time for the season in the 200 fly. Hass touched the wall at 1:53.86, almost a second ahead of his previous best time in this event.

Miami trailed going into the final two events. After falling behind by as much as two seconds throughout the race, Miami made a dramatic comeback during the last leg in the 400 free relay, swimming to victory in their fastest time of the season, 3:06.59.

The Miami University women's swimming and diving team defeated the Ladies of Kenyon College, 147-88, in the first of two weekend dual meets, improving its record to 6-4.

The RedHawks started out strong, going 1-2 in the 400 medley relay with a winning time of 3:55.18. The women took back-to-back first-place finishes in the 200 free and 50 free as junior Allison Stevens finished with a time of 1:54.83 in the 200 and junior Alyson Schmidt with :24.29 in the 50.

In the 200 fly, senior Kathryn Stephens finished first with a time of 2:06.52, followed closely by freshman Taylor Koplow, who took third and recorded her best time of the season at 2:11.61. Stevens and Schmidt finished 1-2 in the 100 free with times of :53.23 and :53.77, respectively.

The RedHawks finished the meet strong, taking first and second in the 200 breast. Sophomore Karen Frazier finished first with a time of 2:22.66, barely beating out freshman teammate Megan Brunn, who finished second with a time of 2:23.44. The RedHawks took first in the final 400 free relay event, securing the win.
