Arizona vs. Berkeley

BERKELEY, California, January 25. THE No. 4-ranked Arizona Wildcats outlasted heavy rains and the fifth-ranked California Golden Bears to claim a 170.50-129.50 dual meet victory at Spieker Aquatics Complex on Friday afternoon.

The Wildcats got off on the right track with first and second place finishes in the 400 Medley Relay (the first event of the day). Arizona's foursome of Hailey DeGolia, Annie Chandler, Ana Agy and Lacey Nymeyer posted a winning time of 3:40.11. Cal claimed third and fourth place finishes in the relay. Lauren Rogers, Alexandra Ellis, Amada Sims and Emily Silver posted a third-place time of 3:42.64. Silver nearly chased down Arizona's Taylor Boughman from behind in the final leg for second place.

Lauren Boyle registered a winning time of 9:53.94 (the eight-fast time in school history) in the 1000 free, while teammate Blake Hayter captured third-place with a time of 10:00.78.

Dana Vollmer claimed a first-place finish in the 200 free with a time of 1:48.61, while Madison Kennedy posted a third-place time of 1:48.80. Vollmer also picked up a first-place finish in the 100 fly with a time of 53.15.

DeGolia and Chandler helped Arizona nab first-place finishes in the 100 back and 100 breast respectively, before freshman Amanda Sims captured first place in the 200 fly with a time of 1:59.81.

Emily Silver continued her success this season in the 50 free with a first-place time of 22.71. Madison Kennedy finished fourth in the 50 as well with a time of 23.14. Silver was able to hold off Arizona's Boughman (50.72) in the 100 free with a time of 50.21.

Lauren Rogers, who captured a Gold Medal at the Victorian State Championships in Australia earlier this month, was the first to touch the wall in the 200 back with a time of 1:59.30. The Wildcats were able to place two, three and four in the 200, before Emily Verdin touched the wall with a fifth place time of 2:02.59.

Arizona was able to secure the 200 breast with a first, second and third place finish.

In the diving portion of the meet, Samantha Young captured first place with a total score of 263.78 on the 3-meter boards and a second-place finish on the 1-meter boards with a total score of 250.27.

Cal resumes action tomorrow versus Arizona State at Noon at Spieker. The Bears will honor its three seniors (Silver, Rachel Ridgeway and Kelly Stravers) in their final home meet of the season.
