Louisiana 4A State High School Championships

SULPHUR, Louisiana, November 29. VANDERBILT Catholic took both the men's and women's team title at the Louisiana 4A State Championships.

Team Scores
Vanderbilt Catholic racked up an astounding 530 points throughout the women's meet en route to earning its state title. Cabrini placed second with 210 points while St. Michael took third with 175 points.

The Vanderbilt Catholic men disposed of their competition by a smaller margin than the women, but they still won by just less than 100 points with 378 total. Alexandria claimed the runner-up spot with 289 points while Holy Cross came in third (212).

Women's Individual Results
Vanderbilt Catholic easily swept all three relay events. The grouping of Ned Briglio, Mo Lefort, Fish Fister and Amber Pierce joined up in the 200 medley relay, winning the event in a 1:56.17 time. Thorn Henthorn, Mallory Thomassie, Lindsey Griffin and Brittany Daigle posted a win in the 200 freestyle relay (1:49.97) while the 400 freestyle relay quartet of Daigle, Fister, Lefort and Pierce picked up Vanderbilt Catholic's third and final relay win with a 3:58.98 performance.

Pierce won both sprint freestyle events. She touched first in the 50 freestyle (25.13) before clocking a 55.12 100 freestyle.

Arlie Rykoski of East Jefferson also won two events, mining gold in both the 200 IM (2:16.96) and the 500 freestyle (5:33.69).

Lefort rounded out the double-event winners with two impressive swims. She clocked a 55.62 100 butterfly, a time that stood just .50 off of the winning 100 freestyle time, and she also swam a first-place 100 breaststroke (1:08.20).

Men's Individual Results
The Vanderbilt Catholic men took two of the three relay events. Seth Guidry, Kip Pierce, Gurt Theriot and Christopher Watson combined stroke talents in the 200 medley relay, stopping the clock at 1:43.05. The same four men teamed up in the 400 freestyle relay, this time in the order of Watson, Guidry, Pierce and Theriot, and won with a 3:29.01 time.

Just four men accounted for each of the eight individual event wins.

Pierce uncorked two first-place finishes in his individual events on top of his relay golds. He posted a 2:06.21 200 IM and a 1:03.77 100 breaststroke.

David Rayner of Robert E. Lee obliterated his competitors with two dominating individual event wins. He clocked a 1:43.40 200 freestyle and a 4:41.36 500 freestyle. He won those events by seven and 31 seconds, respectively.

Theriot strung together two gold-medal performances in both the 100 butterfly (55.62) and the 100 backstroke (54.77).

Oscar Oliver of Alexandria took control of the sprint events, besting the field in both the 50 (22.40) and 100 (49.57) freestyle events.
