South African Short Course: Gerhard Zandberg, Melissa Corfe Triple -- October 1, 2007

PIETERMARITZBURG, South Africa, October 1. ON the second night of swimming at the South African Short Course Championships held in Pietermaritzburg, Gerhard Zandberg wowed the crowd by claiming a trio of sprint titles. Additionally, Melissa Corfe claimed a treble of her own.

He started off his remarkable run with a win in the 50 backstroke when he held off Garth Tune, 24.54 to 25.35. He then pocketed the 50 fly crown with a time of 53.89 to defeat Rohan Jacobs (54.67). Zandberg completed the trifecta with a time of 27.50 in the 50 breaststroke to knock off Donvan van der Merwe's 28.21.

Meanwhile, Corfe put together her repeat trips to the gold-medal podium with wins in the 100 free (55.87), 400 free (4:10.69) and 100 back (1:03.04).
