FINA Diving World Series Begins With Chinese Dominating First Stop in Sheffield -- September 3, 2007
SHEFFIELD, England, September 3. OVER the weekend, the 2007 FINA Diving World Series began with the first stop being dominated by the Chinese in Sheffield, England. The Chinese contingent won all eight gold medals on offer at the event.
In the individual men's events, Kai Qin tallied 517.65 points to win the three-meter event with Canada's Alexandre Despatie (496.75) and Russia's Dmitry Sautin (483.50) taking second and third, respectively. Yue Lin (534.90) captured the 10-meter with countryman Luxin Zhou (505.95) taking second and Russia's Gleb Galperin (446.55) picking up third.
In men's synchro, Kai and Feng Wang (44.184) won the three-meter for China, while Despatie and Arturo Miranda (416.76) took second for Canada. Great Britain's team of Ben Swain and Nicholas Robinson-Baker (402.66) finished second. In the 10-meter competition, Yue and Liang Huo (485.64) garnered gold for China, while Galperin and Dmitry Dobroskok (463.08) of Russia earned silver. The United States' Thomas Finchum and David Boudia (455.22) pocketed bronze.
In the individual women's events, Jingjing Guo (383.1) and Ruolin Chen (433.30) both won gold in the three-meter and 10-meter events, respectively. In the three-meter, Russia's Yuliya Pakhalina (359.00) and China's Minxia Wu (332.80) rounded out the rest of the top three, while China's Xin Wang (388.00) and Canada's Emilie Heymans (356.55) closed out the podium in the 10-meter.
In the women's synchro events, Minxia and Jingjing won the three-meter with 340.20 points and Xi and Ruolin paced the 10-meter event with 352.08 points for China. Russia's duo of Anastasia Pozdnyakov and Pakhalina (306.54) took second in the three-meter, while Germany's Katja Dieckow and Nora Subschinski (286.20) finished third. In the 10-meter event, Heymans and Marie-Eve Marleau off Canada (330.84) and Australia's Briony Cole and Melissa Wu (309.54) picked up second and third.
