Records Continue to Fall for Pipes-Neilsen
CUERNEVACA MORELOS, Mexico, May 29. THE queen of Masters Swimming, Karlyn Pipes-Neilsen went on another record tear at the Mexican Masters Nationals. There, Pipes-Neilsen established five world Masters records in the 45-49 age group, capping an incredible run that began in mid-March. During the past two months, Pipes-Neilsen has set seven short-course world records, six long-course world marks and 17 short-course yardage USMS standards. For her career, she has set 160 world records.
In Mexico, Pipes-Neilsen clocked 1:10.28 in the 100 backstroke and 2:30.97 in the 200 back, the latter effort shaving more than five seconds off the 2:36.03 of Great Britain's Lesley Wilde in 2004. Pipes-Neilsen also set world records in the 200 individual medley (2:31.06), 100 butterfly (1:06.96) and 200 freestyle (2:11.44). American Jill Hernandez was the world-record holder in the 200 I.M. and 100 fly.
