USMS SC Nationals - 100 Back Highlights -- April 29, 2000 75 year old Backstroke Goddess.

100 Back - Women

Sarabeth Schweitzer, 21 swimming for the U.S.A. Water Bandits posted the fastest women's 100 Back with a time of 55.98 - breaking her own national age group record of 56:08. She looked pretty excited about breaking the 56 barrier.

Doris Steadman, 75, from the Garden State Masters was the other woman to break a record in the 100 Back with her 1:28.67 which took nearly 10 seconds off Billard Morrill's record of 1:38.41.

100 Back - Men

Lance Bolman, 29 was the only male under 50 seconds with a stunning 49.97 to have the fastest time of the day. Bolman's time was not a record in his age group, but several other age groups saw new records set.

Both Eric Erickson and Clay Britt were under the 35-39 record of 51.03 held by Britt, but Ericson came up a fingernail ahead to win in 50.93 to 50.94.

Paul Hutinger, new to the 75-79 age group, skated past Ray Taft's record of 1:17.67 from 1995 with a 1:17.29.

Ray Taft didn't mind that his record was broken as he was doing his own damage taking Edward Shea's 1995 record of 1:27.58 apart with a 1:24.23.

And to continue the leapfrogging of record breaking, Edward Shea moved into the 85-59 age group and blasted
seven seconds off Dave Malbrough's 1998 record of 1:46.68 with his impressive 1:39.43
