NCAA Director of Championships Wayne Burrow Speaks With Swimming World Radio About Relay Alternates

By Jason Marsteller

MINNEAPOLIS, Minnesota, March 10. SOMETHING that one can always expect is a different item of interest to come up that dominates the day's discussion on deck at an NCAA Championships.

On the first day, Richard Quick returning to Auburn as head coach owned the ears of most attendees. The second day came down to a major storm brewing in Stanford with Skip Kenney's suspension.

Today, it is the fact that Arizona has already had 19 swimmers compete, which would appear to be in violation of the 18-swimmer cap.

So far, Arizona has seen swims from the following:
1. Agy, Ana
2. Baughman, Taylor
3. Boritzke, Andrea
4. Chandler, Annie
5. Collins, Brandy
6. Craft, Jaquelyn
7. Degolia, Hailey
8. Embick, Jessica
9. Forster, Jenny
10. Iversen, Caitlin
11. Jackson, Lara
12. Kelly, Lindsey
13. Myers, Whitney
14. Nymeyer, Lacey
15. Schluntz, Justine
16. Thompson, Kathryn
17. Turner, Ann
18. Vorster, Leone
19. Zimmerman, Joni

Thankfully, NCAA Director of Championships Wayne Burrow took time out to explain the "relay alternate" rule, and why Arizona is not in violation of any NCAA rule.

Special thanks to Burrow for taking a moment to help clarify a potential cloud at the Championships.
