Westminster Teams Remain Ahead at the Presidents’ Athletic Conference Championships

GROVE CITY, Pennsylvania, February 9. THE Westminster men's and women's swimming and diving teams lead the 2007 Presidents' Athletic Conference Championships at Grove City College following the second day of competition. The Washington & Jefferson College women's swimming and diving team sits in second place, while the men's squad is third. Grove City rounds out the Top three on the women's side.

Westminster leads the women's standings with 587 points followed by W&J (487.5), Grove City (297.5) and Bethany (64). The Titans also lead the men's standings with 641.5 points. Grove City is second with 608 points, while W&J (359.5) and Bethany (98) are third and fourth, respectively.

Junior Kaitlyn Orstein (Mt. Lebanon, Pa./Mt. Lebanon) led two relays to conference titles, while grabbing her third-straight 400 IM (4:28.98) title. Her time in the 400 IM automatically qualifies her for the NCAA Division III Championships.

She also teamed with senior Brandi Shoupe (Cincinnati, Ohio/Princeton) and sophomores Brittany Bertoli (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) and Susanne Seward (Fairview, Pa./Fairview) to place first in the 200 medley relay (1:49.56) which earned NCAA "B" Cut status.

Orstein, Sutton, Shoupe and sophomore Megan Duffett (Hollidaysburg, Pa./Hollidaysburg) then claimed first in the 800 freestyle relay in a time of 7:59.07.

Bertoli won the conference 100 butterfly title (1:00.24), while Shoupe was close behind her in second place in a time of 1:00.79. Sutton grabbed third place in the 200 freestyle (1:59.28) and freshman Alexis England (Tabernacle, N.J./Seneca) took runner-up honors in the 1000 freestyle (11:11.09).

On the men's side, sophomore Eddie Werner (Severna Park, Md./Mt. St. Joseph) placed second in the 100 backstroke (54.55) and fifth in the 100 butterfly (53.52). His time in the 100 backstroke fell 0.35 seconds shy of Dan Radke's record which has stood for 23 years.

Sophomore Daniel Mancuso (Pittsburgh, Pa./Bethel Park) touched third in the 400 IM (4:15.02), while classmate Zach Nigrelli (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield) earned fifth place in the 200 freestyle (1:46.51).

The final day of action at the PAC Championships begins tomorrow morning.
