New Mexico Takes Down In-State Rival New Mexico State -- January 26, 2007

LAS CRUCES, New Mexico, January 26. THE University of New Mexico women's swimming and diving team defeated in-state rival New Mexico State University 159-127 tonight from the NMSU Natatorium in Las Cruces, N.M. The Lobos accumulated a total of 11 first place finishes.

The first victory came in the 200-yard medley relay, which opened the meet. Freshman Ashley Grisdale, juniors Tori Clarridge and Andrea Zarins and senior Jenna Syverson made up the winning team finishing with a time of 1:49.75. Syverson captured the first individual first place finish for the Lobos in the 50-yard freestyle (24.80).

Zarins swam to two individual first place finishes, the first in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:25.54) and the second in the 400-yard individual medley (4:37.28).

Freshman Ashley Grisdale was another Lobo to seal two individual victories. Grisdale came in first in the 100- and 200-yard butterfly (57.84, 2:04.58 respectively).

Clarridge sealed another win for the Lobos in the 100-yard backstroke touching the wall in 59.16. Junior Ashley LaBree took first in the 200-yard back (2:10.01).

The Aggies were trailing UNM by only four points with just the 400-yard IM and the 400-yard free relay left to go, but were outdone by the Lobos in the end.

The victorious 400-yard free relay team included freshman Theresa Rogers, senior Kelly Soldow, Clarridge and Syverson (3:34.12).

Junior diver Carrie Quinn won both of her events, the 1- and 3- meter springboards with scores of 316.88 and 307.65 respectively.

The Lobos will now get ready to face UNLV on Feb. 3, beginning at 2 p.m., in Las Vegas, N
