Miami Downs Buffalo, 142-98

OXFORD, Ohio, January 19. RESUMING its winning ways, the Miami University men's swimming and diving team (2-4; 2-0 MAC) downed the University at Buffalo Bulls, 142-98, Friday afternoon at the Nixon Aquatic Center. Miami won seven of the 13 events contested and had six different swimmers capture victories, as the RedHawks won their second straight conference dual meet and ended their streak of four straight losses.

Though Miami fell behind early as Buffalo captured top finishes in the 400 medley relay and 1,000 freestyle to kick off the meet, Miami rebounded to win three straight events beginning with junior Paul Ricard's top finish in the 200 freestyle (1:41.72). Freshman David Brown also placed second in the 200 freestyle, clocking in at 1:44.54.

Following Ricard's victory, Miami posted top finishes in the 50 freestyle and 200 individual medley. Junior Ryan McHugh and sophomore Zach Siegel finished first (21.59) and second (21.87) in the 50 freestyle, while sophomore Nick DuPuis was the top swimmer in the 200 individual medley (1:56.95).

The Bulls bounced back with a first-place finish on the 1-meter board, as sophomore Chris Heaton was the top Miamian with a second-place score of 265.42, but the RedHawks took control of the meet as they ripped off another three straight wins, beginning with senior Andy Amyot's top finish in the 200 butterfly (1:57.43). Sophomore Scott DucCharme also was part of a 1-2 Miami finish in the event as he clocked in with a second-place time of1:57.66.

McHugh then won his second event of the meet with his first-place time in the 100 freestyle (47.38), as Miami placed the top three swimmers in the event. Siegel (48.41) and freshman Ryan Beljan (48.80) also finished second and third, respectively. DuPuis capped the Miami winning streak with his victory in the 200 backstroke, posting a first-place time of 1:53.59.

Buffalo responded by reeling off three straight wins in the 500 freestyle, 3-meter dive and 200 breaststroke before Miami punctuated the victory with a first-place finish in the 400 freestyle relay. Miami's "A" relay team of sophomore Mike Brown and freshmen Robert Jackson, Drew Bollea and Beljan clocked in with a top time of 3:16.46.
