Miami Remains Perfect, Downs Cincy, 151-88 -- January 17, 2007

CINCINNATI, Ohio, January 16. KEEPING its unblemished record intact, the Miami University women's swimming and diving team (7-0; 5-0 MAC) downed the University of Cincinnati Bearcats (0-6), 151-88, Tuesday afternoon at the Keating Aquatics Center. Seven different Miamians combined to win nine of the 13 events, including junior Kristen Bezier, who placed first in the 100 breaststroke with a new pool record time of 1:05.55. It was Miami's 11th straight dual meet victory dating back to last season.

In a notable performance, sophomore Alex Enriquez won a pair of events for the RedHawks, sweeping the boards with a pair of career-best scores. Enriquez posted scores of 311.85 on the 1-meter board and 336.37 on the 3-meter board, winning her first two diving events of the season. Sophomores Allison Stevens (200 freestyle), Malarie Schmidt (100 backstroke) and Jenn Flaherty (1,000 freestyle), senior Margaret Patrick (50 freestyle) and freshman Allison Way (100 butterfly) also notched individual wins in Miami's non-conference victory.

The RedHawks opened the meet by placing first in the 200 medley relay, clocking in with a first-place time of 1:45.67. The win was one of four straight for Miami, as Flaherty followed with a first-place time of 10:24.56 in the 1,000 freestyle. Stevens and Patrick then posted back-to-back wins in the 200 freestyle (1:52.85) and 50 freestyle (24:11), staking Miami to a commanding lead through four events.

After Cincinnati took top honors in the 400 individual medley, Way notched a first-place finish in the 100 butterfly (57.10) in her first individual victory of the season. Way's time also was the 10th fastest 100 butterfly time in program history. Following UC's first-place finish in the 100 freestyle, Miami won two of the next three events as Schmidt placed first in the 100 backstroke (58.63) and Bezier was the top swimmer in the 100 breaststroke (1:05.55).
