Women Have Several Upsets in Past Weekend of College Action

PHOENIX, Arizona, January 14. THIS past weekend of collegiate action proved to be exciting, especially on the women's side of the top-10. For the men, top-ranked Texas continued to roll on, while the women's next edition of the CSCAA dual-meet rankings should see a shake-up after No. 2 Arizona took a pair of losses.

Here are how all of the CSCAA top-10 teams fared:
Women
1. Stanford: The top-ranked Cardinal pulled off a flawless weekend in the Grand Canyon State. On Friday, Stanford cruised in a top-two showdown with No. 2 Arizona in Tucson, 143-94. The Cardinal then traveled up I-10 to deliver a 170-122 conquest of No. 23 Arizona State in Tempe.

2. Arizona: The Wildcats had a difficult weekend as No. 2 Arizona suffered a pair of defeats. First, top-ranked Stanford posted a 143-94 victory over the Wildcats in Tucson on Friday, before No. 4 California gave Arizona a two-meet losing streak with a 159-142 win on Saturday.

3. Auburn: No. 3 Auburn handed former top women's coach Kim Brackin a 140-91 loss as she returned to Auburn for the first time with her No. 12 Texas Longhorns in the SwimmingWorldMagazine.com Meet of the Week.

4. California: The Golden Bears tore through No. 23 Arizona State, 194-99, in Tempe on Friday before delivering a 159-142 loss to No. 2 Arizona in Tucson on Saturday.

5. Texas A&M: The Aggies continued their Cinderella season with more history making. In a Lone Star State waltz, Texas A&M knocked off No. 7 SMU for the first time in 21 years with a 178.5-115.5 triumph.

6. Georgia: The Bulldogs ended No. 12 Texas' Southeastern Conference road trip with a second loss in a 169-131 win on Saturday. The meet proved to have an interesting sidenote as both the U.S. Olympic team head coaches – Jack Bauerle and Eddie Reese – were on deck. The win also ran Georgia's home win streak to 57 dual meets.

7. Florida State: The Seminole women pushed their undefeated season to 8-0 with a 180-120 win over LSU in Baton Rouge.

7. SMU: No. 7 SMU fell to No. 5 Texas A&M for the first time in 21 years in a 178.5-115.5 loss during the Mustangs' senior meet.

9. Florida: The Gators had a fairly easy weekend compared to the rest of the top 10. First, the Gators posted a 159-122 win over No. 20 Virginia on Friday before serving Indian River Community College with a 141-83 loss on Saturday.

10. Michigan: The Wolverines took third in their own Michigan Invitational with 1,052.5 points. No. 13 Indiana used a deep and versatile roster to walk away with 1,460.5 points for the win, while No. 19 Notre Dame placed second with 1,074 points. Illinois grabbed a distant fourth with 417 points.

Men
1. Texas: Top-ranked Texas knocked out a pair of top-flight Southeastern Conference squads. First, they snapped Auburn's six-year 44 consecutive dual-meet win streak with a 130-113 win on Thursday in the SwimmingWorldMagazine.com Meet of the Week. They then downed No. 9 Georgia in Athens, 161-135, on Saturday.

2. Stanford: The weekend road trip to Arizona proved to be successful for the Cardinal as they initially took down No. 5 Arizona in Tucson, 129-112, on Friday. Stanford then rolled in a 169-129 triumph over No. 21 Arizona State in Tempe.

3. California: The Golden Bears finished second at the Dallas Morning News two-day invite with 334 points. No. 8 Northwestern won the meet with 359 points, while hosts SMU took third with 305 points and No. 10 Florida State placed fourth with 131 points after only competing for one day.

4. Auburn: No. 4 Auburn witnessed its six-year dual-meet winning streak come to an end at the hands of the same team that beat them the last time – Texas. Top-ranked Texas posted a 130-113 win over the Tigers on Jan. 11 (six-years to the day of their last loss in 2001) to break Auburn's 44 consecutive dual-meet win streak in the SwimmingWorldMagazine.com Meet of the Week.

5. Arizona: The No. 5 Wildcat men took a 131-110 loss against No. 2 Stanford in Tucson on Friday.

6. Southern California: The Men of Troy had the weekend off, but will head to Northern California for meets against No. 3 California and No. 2 Stanford from Jan. 26-27.

7. Minnesota: The Golden Gophers had the weekend off, but will travel to Madison, Wis., for a Big Ten Triple Dual against No. 19 Purdue and Wisconsin.

8. Northwestern: The Wildcats gave a glimpse of potential greatness to come this championship season with a win in the Dallas Morning News Invite with 359 points. The effort put them ahead of No. 3 California (334 points), SMU (305 points) and No. 10 Florida State (118 points).

9. Georgia: The Bulldogs wilted in the face of the tremendous pressure offered by top-ranked Texas in a 161-135 loss.

10. Florida State: The Seminoles had a crazy weekend. First, they fell to No. 25 LSU, 154-146, in Baton Rouge as the Tigers claimed their first win over a ranked team since the 2001-02 season. Nine of the Seminoles then immediately headed to Dallas to participate in the Dallas Morning News Invite that same night. FSU picked up 118 points in the meet before withdrawing from the final day of competition to get home ahead of impending inclement weather.
