Texas Newspaper Highlights Pair of Swimming Events

AUSTIN, Texas, December 30. HIGHLIGHTING the top-10 recreational events of the year in Austin, Texas, The Austin American-Statesman named a pair of swimming events to its list. The newspaper honored the Capital 2K Open Water Race and Pledge Swim and the Lake Travis Relays as two of the year's best recreational activities. Two triathlons, the Danskin Women's Triathlon and the Capital of Texas Triathlon, also made the list.

The Capital 2K Open Water Race and Pledge Swim is a 2,000-meter swim in Town Lake that also includes a pledge swim that raises money to aid Deep Eddy Pool, the oldest outdoor public pool in the city. The event has raised $70,000 in four years for a renovation project at Deep Eddy Pool. Next year, the event will crown a high school division champion. As for the Lake Travis Relay, it is a 12-mile relay among six individuals. The competitors take part by swimming 20-minute, 15-minute and 10-minute legs until reaching the finish.
