Botsford Breaks 200 Back Am. Record! -- March 18, 2000

Beth Botsford of Arizona led from the start and paced a well swum race to break her own American Record with a time of 2:06.70, just a bit off the World Record of 2:06.09 by Cihong He of China. Shelly Ripple of Stanford stayed within striking distance the entire way but just couldn't hit another gear over the last 50 and finished runner up (2:08.01). Keegan Walkley of Georgia was third (2:08.63). Misty Hyman of Stanford who missed qualifying for the finals, smoked the consol heat in 2:08.72 which would have placed her 4th if she had been in the big heat.
