Marathon Legend Dies

Australian marathon swimming legend Des Renford died in Sydney on December 30 at the age of 72. Renford, who had fought heart disease for some years, experienced a heart attack during his daily swim at his local pool two days ago. Renford was unusual in that he only took up marathon swimming at the age of 39 yet achieved 19 sucessful crossings of the English Channel during his career.
