Thorpe Fires Back In The Pool

By Steve Thomas

Sydney, Australia – If there were any doubts dual freestyle world record holder, Ian Thorpe, was fully recovered from his recent ankle fracture, he settled the matter at the New South Wales Metropolitan Championships. The news could hardly have been better for the Aussie camp. Swimming World’s male swimmer of the year clocked 3:45.96 for the 400m and 1:48.03 for the 200m. Both times would have won gold at the US Open, beating fellow Aussie Grant Hackett (3:49.50) and Dutchman Pieter van den Hoogenband (1:48.30), respectively.
