Records Fall at Junior Nationals -- March 24, 2006

ORLANDO, Florida, March 24. WHAT a day. With five new meet records, the National Club Swimming Association Junior Nationals continue to cook.

Right off the bat, Julianne Lago from Metro Aquatic Club broke Brooke Bishop's meet record in the 50 fly with her 24.63, bettering the old mark of 24.68. Next up was Tampa Bay's Tommy Wyher and his 21.95 to better Kyle Bubolz's 50 fly mark of 22.06. In the 50 breast, it was Tempe Rio Salado's Samantha Maxwell with her 29.04 cutting down Kara Denby's 29.25. Corey Swanson won the men's event in 25.71.

The 200 free was a good event for Arizona Desert Fox with Katherine Raatz and Buddy Turner winning the races, both narrowly missing meet records. Raatz splashed in at 1:47.72 and Turner finished in 1:37.70.

Jessica Schmitt of North Coast Aquatics didn't let anyone down tonight with her 4:12.05 in the 400 IM bettering Tucson Ford's Molly Houlton's 4:12.43.

The 800 free relays produced one new meet record on the girls' side of the meet, with Arizona Desert Fox winning the event in 7:23.77, thanks to the foursome of Alexandra Clarke, Joni Zimmerman, Ashley Evans and Katherine Raatz. Nova of Virginia won the 800 free relay for the men with a 6:48.36.
