Junior National Swimmers Continue to Impress -- March 23, 2006

ORLANDO, Florida, March 22. ANOTHER day of fast swimming in Orlando has heightened the expectations of the swims to come. A new meet record and a few close calls kept it exciting.

In the 200 fly Elizabeth Shaw from Nova of Virginia made the most noise. She had held the meet record, in a tie, with Laura Davis who now swims for Stanford University. Tonight, her time of 1:57.47 eclipsed the old record by nearly a second. She doesn't have to share anymore.

The 100 free wasn't too shabby either with Arizona Desert Fox's Buddy Turner winning the race in 44.68, narrowly missing Matt McGinnis' mark of 44.36 from 2004. Elizabeth Kemp from Curl-Burke won the women's 100 in 50.09.

Jessica Schmitt of North Coast Aquatics took the 200 breast in a 2:13.34 by just out-touching Melanie Roberts who finished in 2:13.60. Nova of Virginia had another win tonight, this time from John Vogt with his 200 breast time of 2:01.25.

Margaret Kelly from Ann Arbor won the 200 back in 1:58.24, as did Joseph Ziegler for Area Tallahassee, thanks to a 1:46.41. In the 200 free relay it was Lake Country for the women and Tsunami Swim Team for the men.
