Kenyon Maintains Advantage at NCAA Division III Men’s Champs

MINNEAPOLIS, Minnesota, March 17. KENYON College, chasing its 27th consecutive NCAA Division III men’s championship, extended its lead on Friday night at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center. Kenyon finished the second day of action with 324 points, 80 more than the 244 total of Denison. Emory sits in third with 213 points and is followed by Williams (204) and Johns Hopkins (185).

The winner of two relays on Day One, Kenyon added the 200 medley relay on the second night of finals. The quartet of David Dehart, Davis Zarins, Andrejs Duda and Josh Mitchell clocked in at 1:31.73 to edge Johns Hopkins (1:31.77). Meanwhile, Travis Brennion supplied a victory in the 400 individual medley with a mark of 3:55.04. He was followed to the wall by Amherst’s Ethan Treat (3:57.68).

Duda contributed second-place points to Kenyon in the 100 butterfly, where he touched behind Justin Hake of Emory. Hake covered the distance in 48.15, more than a second quicker than the 49.30 of Duda. In the 200 freestyle, Washington’s Eric Triebe managed a swim of 1:39.12 to place ahead of Washington & Lee’s Michael Ginder (1:39.36).

In other action, New Jersey’s Steve Swenson bested the competition in the 100 breaststroke when his 56.25 effort topped the 56.31 of Alex Anderson from Wisconsin-Stevens Point. Williams’ Will Cunningham came out on top of the 100 backstroke with a swim of 48.79 and the Denison 800 free relay of David Curtis, Bryce Peterson, Brad Voreis and Lowell Byers prevailed in 6:40.72.
