Klim Breaks Aussie 50m Free Record

Michael Klim showed he has lost none of his recent Pan Pacific form by breaking his own Australian 50m freestyle LC record by 0.16 in a meet at his home pool in Canberra last weekend. His time of 22.31 was eight fastest in the world this year. However, he is very unlikely to contest the event at the Olympics as it clashes with the timetable for the 100m butterfly – the event for which he is the current world record holder. Klim also won the 100m freestyle in a fast 49.38, setting himself up for strong performances at the US Open in San Antonio Texas at the start of next month. Klim will only swim the 50m and 100m free and 50m fly, resting from the 200m free at this stage in his preparation for Sydney 2000.
