Independent Investigator Clears Sweetenham of Allegations of Bullying -- January 5, 2006

LONDON, England, January 5. ACCORDING to a release from British Swimming, National Performance Director Bill Sweetenham has been cleared of allegations that he’s used bullying tactics against swimmers he has overseen as the man in charge of British Swimming. An independent investigator looked into the allegations and produced a comprehensive report.

While British Swimming has announced that Sweetenham has been found to not employ bullying tactics, the report has identified a number of issues that Sweetenham will be expected to discuss with the British Swimming Managing Board. The report is expected to be published at a later date, but the release by British Swimming did not specifically cite which issues would be addressed with Sweetenham, who is currently in Australia, his home country.

Sweetenham had been accused of bullying swimmers on the British National Team, particularly a handful of athletes who retired from the sport. Sweetenham denied the allegations and received support from several swimmers.
