Grevers Lifts Northwestern to Win over Wisconsin

MADISON, Wisconsin, November 11. BEHIND a pair of individual victories from Matt Grevers and Mike Alexandrov, the Northwestern University men notched a 125-99 victory over Wisconsin on Thursday night in a matchup of nationally ranked squads from the Big Ten Conference. Northwestern (3-2) entered the meet ranked 13th while the Badgers were slotted 25th in the latest poll.

Grevers, the reigning NCAA champion in the 100 backstroke, took top honors in the 50 freestyle and 200 back. He blazed to a time of 20.79 in the sprint free and added a mark of 1:50.43 in the distance dorsal. As for Alexandrov, he prevailed in the 400 individual medley (3:52.79) and bested the competition in the 200 breaststroke with a stellar time of 1:58.53.

The Wildcats also received victories from Brian Davis in the 1,000 free (9:32.66) and Kyle Bubolz in the 100 free, where he touched the wall in 45.97. Eric Nilsson contributed a triumph in the 200 free with a swim of 1:40.83 and Ryan McIntosh doubled on the one and three-meter boards. Tom Molzahn won the 500 free for Wisconsin in 4:34.59 and Scott Rice earned a first-place finish for the Badgers in the 200 fly (1:51.32).
