Penn State Men Impressive Against La Salle

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pennsylvania, November 5. PENN State men’s swimming and diving team garnered first place finishes in all but one event Friday evening at McCoy Natatorium. The men captured an impressive 143-91 victory over LaSalle, advancing to 2-0 for the season.

Senior Shawn McLin (Sinking Spring, Pa.), sophomore Brad Roth (Kutztown, Pa.), and freshmen Ryan DeWeese (Midlothian, Va.) and Tim Williams (North Bend, Ohio) took home the first win of the night in the 400-yard medley relay with a time of 3:30.17. McLin also captured a first place finish in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:42.14, and Williams won the 200 IM with a time of 1:56.71.

Senior Christopher Ippoliti (Berwyn, Pa.) took the 50 free with a time of 21.24. Sophomore Josh Graham (Newport News, Va.) won the 200 backstroke and 200 breaststroke with times of 1:53.95 and 2:11.89, respectively.

The freshmen put on quite a show Friday evening. Pat Schirk (Pottstown, Pa.) won the 1,000 free with a time of 9:47.19, and Vincent Reydams (Falls Church, Va.) captured the 100 free with a time of 47.12. Senior Adam Pierce (Conroe, Texas) commanded the diving events, capturing first place finishes in both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events. Dan Kaiserian (Radnor, Pa.) won the 200 free with a time of 1:43.29.

Sophomores Rob Felty (Hummelstown, Pa.), Kyle Miranda (Louisville, Colo.), Sean Swanepoel (KZN, South Africa) and freshman Daniel Calderon (Bowie, Md.) ended the meet with a first place finish in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:12.65.

The Penn State men’s swimming and diving team travels to Virginia Nov. 11 12 to take on Virginia, Auburn and Purdue, starting at 6 p.m. Friday night. The women’s swimming and diving team joins the men to take on Virginia and Auburn.
