Stanford Opens Fall Season with Victory -- September 19, 2005

BATON ROUGE, Louisiana, September 19. OPENING its fall season with a matchup with four club teams, Stanford posted an easy victory Friday night at Louisiana State University. The Cardinal racked up 772 points to defeat Crawfish Aquatics (239) and Hurricane Swim Club (74). Crescent City Swim Club (28) and Bengal Tiger Aquatic Club (11) also took part in the event.

Stanford won all 10 events that were contested with Hongzhe Sun taking top honors in the 50-yard backstroke (23.20) and the 150 back (1:18.20). Ben Wildman-Tobriner, a member of the United States’ World Championships team, took first in the 50 butterfly (23.20) and was second to Andy Grant in the 150 free. Grant clocked 1:12.24 to Wildman-Tobriner’s 1:14.44.

Matt Crowe won the 50 free in 21.55 and Karl Boehringer won the 50 breast in 27.00. First place in the 150 breast went to Paul Kornfeld (1:32.54) and Noa Sakamoto was the victor in the 150 fly (1:24.63). Tobias Oriwol prevailed in the 150 individual medley in 1:24.79 and Stanford won the 500 free relay in 4:09.45.
