Alex Slayton has given her verbal commitment to Virginia Tech. She joins a quickly growing crew of swimmers who have made verbal commitments to the Hokies for the 2018-2019 season.

The in-state talent is a junior at York High School in Yorktown and swims for Coast Guard Blue Dolphins under Coach Jack Bierie.

Slayton has had an impressive high school career, finishing as the 3A state champion in the 50 freestyle or as a member of the state champion 200 freestyle relay each year. Already looking forward to her senior year, Slayton is looking to become York’s first graduate to secure a state title all four years.

Slayton has been a Winter Juniors qualifier in the 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke and is a Summer Juniors qualifier in the 100 fly.

Her top short course times are:

  • 50 Free 23.54
  • 100 Free 51.50
  • 200 Free 1:52.28
  • 100 Back 55.28
  • 100 Fly 56.42
  • 200 IM 2:05.28

Slayton shared how she made her choice,

“I chose Virginia Tech because I fell in love with ALL things Hokie after my first unofficial visit in November. They have believed in me from day one, have cheered on my progress and it is a good fit academically. The coaching staff, support staff, team and atmosphere is where I can see myself for the next four years so it eventually became obvious being a Virginia girl I was meant to be a H2OKIE. I am extremely thankful for the opportunity and thankful to all of those in my corner who have supported me to get where I am. GO HOKIES!!”

Alex WrightKeith Myburgh and Ben Hicks have committed to the men’s team. Loulou Vos and Julia Bruneau have verbally committed to the women’s team.
