SANTA CLARA, California, June 23. THOUGH Scott Weltz is excited about the upcoming USA Swimming nationals, a more momentous occasion that took place away from the pool has him grinning in this video interview.

Weltz, a 2012 Olympian in the 200 breast, got married on May 31, and it was one of the highs in a year that had him dealing with issues with his thyroid gland. Weltz said he’s been fighting the urge to train as hard as he needs to while also taking care of his health, describing it as a “frustrating internal battle.”
