Up-and-Comers: The Rise of SwimMac Carolina Standout Avery Klamfoth

Fifteen-year-old Avery Klamfoth of SwimMac Carolina (Charlotte, N.C.) is hard to beat in the pool. Although the recently aged-up high school freshman is talented in many events, you will consistently find her at the top of the podium after her IM and breaststroke races.

At the 2022 Long Course Junior National Championships, Aug. 1-5, in Irvine, Calif., Klamfoth placed fourth in the 200 breaststroke (2:31.46) and third in the 400 IM (4:45.72). These times were swum only a week after she competed in the Senior Nationals, July 26-30, as a 14-year-old in the 50-100-200 breaststroke (34.27, 1:11.94, 2:31.60), 200 backstroke (2:20.08) and the 200 and 400 IM (2:16.88, 4:48.14).

At the North Carolina Age Group Championships, July 14-17, in Greensboro, N.C., Klamfoth earned the 13-14 girls high-point award after sweeping all of her events (50-100-200 butterfly, 100-200 breaststroke, 200 backstroke, 200-400 IM and 800 freestyle) except the 800 free, in which she placed second.

Klamfoth was also recently invited to attend the 2022 National Select Camp at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo. This camp, hosted by USA Swimming, is for the fastest three athletes (men and women) in each age group in each Olympic swimming event.

The Myers Park High School student is very supportive of her teammates, and her determined attitude allows her to keep striving to be the best that she can be!
