Vlad Stancu Heads 1500 Free As Romanian Championships Wrap Up
Vlad Stancu was among the winners as the Romanian National Championships wrapped up on Sunday in Otopeni.
The 18-year-old posted 15:33.54, more than 33secs outside the national record of 15:00.51 that secured silver behind Turkey’s Kuzey Tuncelli at the 2023 European Junior Championships.
Andrei Theodor Proca trailed by three seconds in 15:36.78 with Nandor Nagy making another trip to the podium in 15:56.39.
Briana Paun was the only woman inside 17mins in the women’s event, winning in 16:56.09.
It brought to an end the five-day meet at the Otopeni Swimming Sports Complex with David Popovici winning four titles in the 50, 100, 200 and 400 free as he went 22/47/1:45/3:47.

Aissia Claudia Prisecariu enjoyed a dominant victory in the women’s 200 back in 2:11.89, albeit outside both the A and B cuts for Paris.
Robert Andrei Badea won the men’s 200 back with the 16-year-old ahead of Alexandru Constantinenscu throughout to touch in 2:00.15 to 2:00.59.
George Ratiu won the men’s 100 fly in 53.31 with Alexandra Bogdaneci taking the women’s title in 1:00.54.
