ATLANTA – The NC State Wolfpack turned in an exciting night of relays with a pair of victories at the ACC Men’s Championships.  With the pair of wins, N.C. State vaulted to fifth in the team rankings as divers already tallied points last weekend during the women’s championship event.

N.C. State wasted little time tonight in capturing its first title of the meet. With the start time moved up until 3 p.m. due to inclement weather, the Wolfpack brought the heat in the 200-yard medley relay.

Andreas Schiellerup (21.30), Derek Hren (23.72), Soeren Dahl (20.50) and David Williams (18.55) hit the wall in 1:24.07 for the win.

Duke surprisingly picked up second as its men’s squad continued to improve.  Kazumu Takabayashi (22.18), Peter Kropp (22.94), David Armstrong (20.92) and James Peek (18.99) finished second overall in 1:25.03.

Louisville’s Grigory Tarasevich (21.63), Thomas Dahlia (23.54), Josh Quallen (20.49) and Caryle Blondell (19.40) placed third in 1:25.06.

North Carolina also cleared the NCAA A cut in the event with a 1:25.36.

N.C. State then swept day one prelims with an ACC record in the 800-yard free relay.

Soeren Dahl (1:34.02), Simonas Bilis (1:32.05), Ryan Held (1:33.63) and David Williams (1:33.44) won in 6:13.14.

That swim eclipsed the 2009 ACC conference and meet record of 6:15.02 set by the Matt McLean-anchored Virginia Cavaliers.

Louisville’s Trevor Carroll (1:33.99), Mathias Lindenbauer (1:34.38), Grigory Tarasevich (1:35.60) and Rudy Edelen (1:36.05) finished second in 6:20.02.

Virginia Tech’s Owen Burns (1:34.95), Lucas Bureau (1:34.95), Morgan Latimer (1:36.33) and Michal Szuba (1:35.25) clinched third overall in 6:21.48.

Notre Dame (6:21.51) and North Carolina (6:22.47) also eclipsed the NCAA A cut in the event.
