Missy Franklin Pool Dedicated at Regis Jesuit High School

Regis Jesuit High School in Aurora, Colo., has chosen to honor its most famous alum by dedicating its pool in her honor. Missy Franklin began her Hall-of-Fame career during her time attending the school, winning four Olympic gold medals plus one bronze the summer before her senior year. The 28-year-old, now Missy Johnson, returned to her home state this week alongside husband Hayes Johnson and daughter Caitlin as her school celebrated her career.

In an Instagram post, Franklin wrote, “It’s hard to put into words what yesterday meant to me. I could have never imagined such an honor, and it still doesn’t feel real.” She called her high school years at Regis Jesuit ” some of the most impactful of my life, and I don’t know if I could have gotten through the journey I experienced at 17 years old without them.”

missy franklinFranklin Johnson added that this was the first major event in which Caitlin, 2, could attend and appreciate her mother’s accomplishments in swimming. “(I)t made me unbelievably emotional all day seeing her walk around my campus, my school and meet so many of the people who had such a profound impact on me.”

Franklin Johnson retired from swimming in late 2018 after shoulder injuries derailed a comeback attempt. She swam at two Olympics, winning five gold medals plus one bronze, and her 16 World Championships medals included 11 gold, two silver and three bronze. In 2012, Franklin Johnson won Olympic gold in the 200 backstroke in 2:04.06, setting a world record that would last seven years. She was inducted into the International Swimming Hall of Fame last year.

Franklin Johnson and her family currently live in Nashville, and she hosts the Unfiltered Waters podcast with fellow multi-time U.S. Olympic medalist Katie Hoff, where the two swimmers conduct deep-dive interviews with swimmers and other athletes about their lives and challenges within their respective sports.
