Industry News: TeamTermin Sports Performance Velocity Meter/Video Telemetry Featured at Canadian Sports Hall of Fame

CALGARY, Alberta, Canada, August 29. THE Canadian Sports Hall of Fame opened in Calgary, Alberta, Canada on July 1, 2011. One of the eleven galleries in the complex is devoted to and honors the role technology plays in the science of sport. One of the permanent kiosks features the TeamTermin Sports Performance Velocity Meter/Video Telemetry as an interactive exhibit. The state of the art technology featured in the exhibit is based on innovations that date back to the mid 1970's, and was the initial creation of the late Dr. Albert Craig, a prominent and well known swimming researcher.

In the late 1980's swimming coach Budd Termin, co-founder of TeamTermin Sports Performance, teamed up with Dr. Craig, and for the next 20 years, continued to develop and refine a sports technology that integrated multiple video cameras with high speed velocity telemetry. The technology was specifically designed to measure the instantaneous velocity of swimming technique, while being able to observe the physical movements of a swimmer utilizing synchronized underwater digital video. Through the years, Craig and Termin conducted testing on numerous international Olympic and U.S. national level swimmers, and published and presented several papers about swimming technique at international symposiums. In 2007, the Velocity Meter hardware went through a major re-design headed by Mickey Termin, co-founder of TeamTermin Sports Performance. The new proprietary computer engineered design was created and fabricated with the most exacting design tolerances for a device of this type. The new hardware design allowed for the collection of velocity telemetry rates as high as 2,000 data points per second, redefining how instantaneous velocity telemetry is measured in swimming. Also in 2007, a collaborative partnership was formed with ADInstruments, a world-leading provider of computer-based data acquisition and analysis systems for the Life Sciences. This alliance created a synergy between the life sciences and elite sport, and added an additional layer of sophistication to the ability to measure swimming technique.

While designed specifically for swimming, Velocity Meter/Video Telemetry is also currently being used to reveal the instantaneous velocity effects of skating technique for elite hockey players, and other high precision competitive and leisure sports such as golf, volleyball, soccer, and baseball.

TeamTermin Sports Performance is an internationally based sports performance consulting firm dedicated to providing world class video/velocity telemetry technology that offers the most precise and practical method of objectively assessing and improving swimming technique.
