Australian native and 2018 Honorable Mention All American Dylan Boyd will be transferring from Arizona State to the University of Michigan for the 2018-19 NCAA Swimming & Diving season. Boyd made the announcement on his Instagram on April 11:

After originally giving his verbal commitment to Wisconsin, Boyd completed his first year of NCAA competition with the Sun Devils. In Arizona, he earned three top-twenty finishes at the 2018 Pac-12 Men’s Swimming & Diving Championships. He earned a spot in the B final of the 500 Freestyle, racing to fourteenth place in 4:22.87. He went 4:21.11 at the Texas Invitational in December.

As a member of the 800 Freestyle Relay, Boyd teamed up with Cameron Craig, Grant House and Evan Carlson for runner-up honors at Pac-12s. The same four athletes earned tenth place at the 2018 NCAA Men’s Swimming & Diving Championships, 1.30 seconds out of eighth place.

Boyd achieved personal best times in four freestyle events and the 200 Butterfly with the Sun Devils:

50 Free – 21.21

100 Free – 44.83

200 Free – 1:36.57

500 Free – 4:21.11

200 Fly – 1:46.55

At the 2018 Big Ten Conference Championships, Boyd’s 500 time would have earned him a tenth place finish for the Wolverines. He would have been the fourth-best performer on the team. His 200 Freestyle would have also given him a top-sixteen finish, while he would have likely just missed a spot on the team’s 800 Freestyle Relay.

In the 200 Freestyle, Boyd was a 1:40.34 in 2016 and a 1:41.13 in 2017 before dropping down to 1:36 at the Texas Invite. The swim was a lifetime best after going 1:37.67 to win the event at the 2016 Illinois High School State Championships. His fastest 500 out of high school was also from 2016 when he swam a 4:34.60 at Junior Nationals.

The University of Michigan Men finished second in the Big Ten and eighth in the NCAA in 2018.
