Arianna Vanderpool-Wallace is still working on lessening her breathing during the 50-meter free, even after winning the Arena Pro Swim Series Mesa.

She also explained that SwimMAC had the chance to visit her native Bahamas recently.

Original report on 50 free:

SwimMAC’s Arianna Vanderpool-Wallace had enough in the tank to win the women’s 50-meter free at the Arena Pro Swim Series Mesa.

Vanderpool-Wallace threw down a 24.84 for the win tonight, clipping her 13th-ranked season best of 24.85 from the Orlando stop of the Arena Pro Swim Series.

Arianna Vanderpool-Wallace, 50 free:
“I’m working on my start, getting off the blocks as fast as I can and getting into my stroke as fast as I can. I try to block everything off. All I can rely on is the work I’ve put in. I’m usually just rapping a song to myself.”

Stanford’s Simone Manuel hit the wall second tonight in 24.98 as the only other sub-25 swimmer tonight.

California’s Natalie Coughlin, the veteran of the bunch at 32 years of age, took third in 25.15.

Abbey Weitzeil (25.38), Tucson Ford’s Margo Geer (25.53), SwimMAC’s Katie Meili (25.56), SMU’s Isabella Arcila (25.62) and SwimAtlanta’s Amanda Weir (25.86) closed out the rest of the top eight.
