Viktoria Zeynep Gunes Races To First in Prelims of 200 IM at the 2015 FINA World Junior Championships
Viktoria Zeynep Gunes of Turkey raced to first in prelims of the women’s 200-meter IM finishing with a time of 2:12.52. Gunes finished only .20 seconds off of Ruta Meilutyte’s championship meet record of 2:12.32 from 2013.
Canada’s Mary-Sophie Harvey took second overall in prelims with a final time of 2:13.87, adding only .10 to her seed time of 2:13.77.
Japan’s Hiroko Makino finished third in prelims with a time of 2:14.31, adding to her seed time of 2:12.29.
[table “” not found /]Georgia Coates of Great Britain took fourth in the event with a finishing time of 2:14.32. Italy’s Ilaria Cusinato was a close fifth after posting a time of 2:14.49 from heat five.
Japan’s Runa Imai turned in a final time of 2:14.77 from heat six to grab the sixth place seed.
USA’s Tatum Wade and Brooke Forde complete the top eight qualifiers. Wade posted a final time of 2:14.86 for the seventh place seed, while Forde finished eighth with a time of 2:15.10.
