Wednesday night, Katie Drabot joined teammates Lia NealElla Eastin and Katie Ledecky on Stanford’s 800 free relay, and the foursome posted a time of 6:49.42, a new American and NCAA record in the event. One night later, Drabot finished second in the 500 free with a strong time of 4:35.69, which ranks sixth in the country this season.

After that 500 free, Drabot chatted with Swimming World about the experience of breaking the record and why it hasn’t sunk in yet. She also discussed what it was like to race next to Ledecky when her teammate broke the American record in the 500 free and explained how much taper her team had for the meet.
