Sarah Vasey stole the show at the 2015 Open Luxembourg Nationals taking place July 4-5. Her 100 breaststroke time of 1:09.56 set a new meet record by over a full second. Vasey is the first swimmer to break 1:10 at this meet. But the excitement did not stop there; her split of 32.57 also broke the 50 breaststroke meet record, which she will have another chance to break tomorrow.

Max Mannes also had a big day, winning the first two events of the competition. Mannes came from behind to claim victory in the 400 freestyle with a time of 4:05.72. Mannes swam past Pit Brandenburger, who lead the race through the 300. Brandenburger finished second in 4:10.97

Mannes made it to the wall first again in the 200 backstroke, giving him two wins for the night. His winning time of 2:09.37 placed just ahead of Tom Donker who finished second in 2:09.45.

Monique Olivier swam a 4:17.38 to win the women’s 400, just one second off her pool record. Isobel Griffiths and Georgia Darwent battled for second place finishing in 4:20.78 and 4:21.79, respectively.

Charlotte Evans kept the excitement going with a meet record in the women’s 200 backstroke. Her time of 2:15.58 broke the previous record of 2:16.81 held by national record-holder Sarah Rolko.

The 200 butterfly events were won by Fabien Francois (2:11.36) for the men, and Griffiths (2:22.71) for the women. Both athletes dominated their races the whole way.

Donker and Mannes also swam the 50 backstroke on day one, but Jean-Francois Schneiders took home the gold with a time of 27.00. This was almost a full second off of his pool record, but it was enough to hold off Donker who was second (27.36) and Mannes who placed fourth (27.85).

On the women’s side, Eliza Duffy overcame a close race to touch first in the 50 backstroke in 30.10 seconds. She was followed by LouLou Janssen (30.51) and Evans (30.76).

Another pool record was barely missed in the men’s 50 butterfly, as Julien Henx missed his own record of 24.80 by .09. Ilse Kraaijeveld won the women’s event in 27.78.

Arjan Knipping swam to a new meet record in the 400 IM with a 4:28.48. He won the race by over 12 seconds. Women’s 400 IM champion Niamh Hofland did not have as easy of a victory, as she just out-touched Great Britain’s Griffiths. Hofland finished in 5:02.27, followed by Griffiths in 5:03.72.

100 breaststroke pool record holder Laurent Carnol won his signature event with a time of 1:01.93. He got past Christopher Steeples in the second 50 to get the win.

Nyls Korstanje out-swam Henx, Schneiders, Brandenburger, Nonnekes and more to get the win the men’s 100 freestyle. His time of 51.43 was over half a second ahead of his closest competitor. Julie Meyen took over the women’s race right from the start, claiming victory in 55.47 seconds.
