Cesar Cielo Blasts 50 Fly in Brazil
RIO DE JANEIRO – Cesar Cielo moved to second in the world this year in the 50-meter fly at the Brazilian National Championships.
Cielo turned in a 22.91 for the win. That swim put him behind only Andrey Govorov (22.87) in the world rankings in 2014.
Nicholas Dos Santos touched second in 23.04 after posting a 23.01 in prelims to move into the top five in the world. Henrique de Souza claimed third in 23.44.
Felipe Franca clipped Joao Gomes Jr. in the men’s 50-meter breast, 27.04 to 27.14. That moved Franca up to fourth in the world, while Gomes Jr. clocked a swift 26.89 in prelims to move to fifth in the world. Felipe Lima took third in 27.52.
Etienne Medeiros, coming off a blistering 50 back world record at world short course championships, won the women’s 100-meter back in a meet-record 1:01.10.
Maria Pessanha finished second in 1:04.26 with Tatiana Adorno taking third overall in 1:04.45.
Guilherme Guido turned in a 54.10 to win the men’s 100-meter backstroke finale after clocking a swift 53.73 in prelims. Thiago Pereira placed second in 54.54 with Fabio Santi winding up third in 55.28.
Dayana De Paula raced her way to a meet record in the women’s 50-meter fly with a time of 26.42, while Caroline Lemos finished just behind in second with a 26.52. Daiene Dias hit the wall third in 26.71.
Jennifer da Conceicao won the women’s 50-meter breast in 31.85 with Ana Carvalho earning second in 32.08. Beatriz Azzolini wound up third in 32.11.
Bruna Primati captured the women’s 800-meter free in 8:44.30 with Viviane Eichelberger snared second in 8:47.03. Carolina Bilich finished third in 8:54.69.
Miguel Valente picked up the men’s 1500-meter free title in 15:16.89, while Lucas Kanieski finished second in 15:22.84. Luiz Rogerio Arapiraca pocketed third in 15:33.12.




Cielo led off his club’s 400 FR in 48.58.
