Campbell County, Jackson Hole Win Wyoming Girls State Swimming And Diving Titles

GILLETTE – Campbell County High School and Jackson Hole High School took home the Wyoming girls state swimming and diving titles this weekend, with Campbell County running away with the 4A title and Jackson Hole dominating the 3A meet at the Campbell County High School Aquatic Center in Gillette.

Host Campbell County took home the first win of the meet, as Taylor Schiefelbein, Annie Waldrum, Emily Jewell and Emmalee Carsrud touched first in 1:51.71. Cheyenne Central’s Katherine Summers, Samantha Geyer, Logan Anderson and Hannah Linde finished second in 1:52.02, followed by Laramie’s Hailey Hamilton, Bailey Butcher, Sierra Bienz and Delta Burchi in 1:54.29.

Kelly Walsh’s Iliana Jones dominated the 200 free, winning by more than five seconds in 1:51.30. Campbell County’s Sani Carsrud touched second in 1:56.97, followed by Sheridan’s Pippin Robison in 1:57.82.

In the 200 IM, Campbell County’s Rylie Pilon got the better of Cheyenne East’s Abby Urban by the smallest possible margin, 2:07.73 to 2:07.74. Katie Carsrud, also from Campbell County, swam a 2:11.85 to finish third.

Cheyenne Central freshman Samantha Geyer took home her first state title in the 50 free, winning convincingly in 24.60. Laramie’s Delta Burchi touched second in 25.34, followed by Riverton’s Jordan Settlemire in 25.60.

The battle for the women’s 1-meter diving crown came down to the final dive, as Cheyenne East’s Peyton GrandPre edged Laramie’s Ryleigh Kobbe by less than one point, 386.45 to 385.55. Rock Springs’ Chynna Randall rounded out the top three with 368.85 points.

After finishing second in the 200 IM by .01, Cheyenne East’s Abby Urban got her revenge in the 100 fly, winning by almost four seconds in 57.80. Green River freshman Avery Otto out-touched Laramie’s Sierra Bienz for second, 1:01.53 to 1:01.66.

Iliana Jones of Kelly Walsh picked up her second win of the day in the 100 free, nearly cracking 50 seconds with a 50.37. Campbell County’s Rylie Pilon earned her second top-two finish of the meet with a 54.78 for second, while teammate Shakira Dohse snuck in for third at 55.62.

Rebecka Anderson of Rock Springs cut nine seconds off her prelim time to win the 500 free state title in 5:12.21, knocking off top seed Sani Carsrud of Campbell County (5:16.78) in the process. Jillian Mills gave Campbell County a 2-3 finish with her 5:24.51 for third.

Campbell County continued its domination in the 200 free relay, as Rylie Pilon, Annie Waldum, Emmalee Carsrud and Sani Carsrud topped the championship by more than three seconds in 1:39.45. Kelly Walsh’s Iliana Jones, Ana Everard, Tori Bailey and Olivia Nash combined to post a 1:42.81 for second, just ahead of Laramie’s Shelby Brown, Jennifer Snyder, Haley Pickard and Delta Burchi (1:42.95).

Shortly after winning the 500 free, Rock Springs’ Rebecka Anderson returned to the pool to pick up her second individual state title in the 100 back. Anderson touched in 59.84 to clip Cheyenne Central’s Katherine Summers (1:00.20) by just under half a second. Sheridan’s Sol Montero swam a 1:01.01 to secure third.

Annie Waldum led a 1-2 finish for Campbell County in the 100 breast, as she swam a 1:05.35 to finish out front of teammate Katie Carsrud (1:07.92). Cheyenne Central’s Samantha Geyer, the state champion in the 50 free earlier, rounded out the top three with a 1:08.88.

Campbell County sealed the deal on their team title with a 3:40.98 in the final 400 free relay. Cheyenne East’s Brianda Johnson, Sarah Devine, Halley Jankovsky and Abby Urban touched second in 3:46.08, followed by Kelly Walsh’s Iliana Jones, Ana Everard, Tori Bailey and Abby Chambers in 3:46.71.

Campbell County wrapped up the team title with 350 points, followed by Laramie (236 points) and Cheyenne Central (145 points). Cheyenne East (144 points) and Sheridan (131 points) rounded out the top five.

Jackson Hole kicked off the meet in dominating fashion as Hannah Clancy, Avery MacFarland, Alanna DeMuro and Elsa Smith combined efforts to win the 200 medley relay by nearly five seconds in 1:54.47. Douglas, represented by Dezirae Layher, Brooke Perala, Ellie Wortham and Ciara Blain, touched second in 1:59.11, followed by Newcastle’s Mikenna Waggener, Cameron Ault, Nathina Crabtree and Rachel Henkle in 2:03.56.

Lander senior Morgan Gramlich won a state title in her final high school state meet, clearing 2:00 in the 200 free with a 1:59.46. Jackson Hole’s Jaime Pardee touched exactly four seconds later in 2:03.46, while Powell’s Aly Schneider rounded out the top three in 2:05.22.

Powell’s Amanda Tracy sliced .59 off her prelim time to win the 200 IM in 2:18.10, about three and a half seconds ahead of Rawlins’ Katelyn Olson (2:21.62). Jackson Hole’s Hannah Clancy snuck in for third at 2:25.11.

Carolyn Kennedy of Worland proved to be the top sprinter at the meet as she completed the 50 free in 24.80, nearly a second in front of second place finisher Rachel Henkle of Newcastle (25.75). Elsa Smith of Jackson Hole swam a 26.26 to take third.

Jenna Elmlinger of Buffalo ran away with the 1-meter diving state title, scoring 324.85 points to out-do Jackson Hole’s Rachel Ablondi (284.60) and Elmlinger’s teammate, Kyera Vasco (275.35).

After finishing second in the 200 IM, Rawlins senior Katelyn Olson moved up a spot on the podium to first in the 100 fly with a 1:01.65. Jackson Hole’s Alanna DeMuro, the top seed after prelims, finished second in the final at 1:02.19. Kristin Collingwood of Worland rounded out the top three in 1:05.26.

Worland’s Carolyn Kennedy made it a sweep of the sprint free events, posting a 54.50 in the 100 free to add to her win in the 50 free earlier in the meet. Jackson Hole took the next two spots on the podium, with Jaime Pardee (55.14) and Abbie Shockley (56.54) taking second and third.

Morgan Gramlich of Lander doubled her win total at the meet as well, stopping the clock at 5:24.78 to earn state titles in both the 200 and 500 free. Rylan Tepe of Jackson Hole touched second in 5:35.68, while Worland’s Saydria Russell claimed third place honors in 5:40.02.

Elsa Smith, Alanna DeMuro, Abbie Shockley and Jaime Pardee gave Jackson Hole a second relay victory as they joined efforts to post a 1:41.86 in the 200 free relay. Worland’s Megan Molitor, Kristin Collingwood, Saydria Russell and Carolyn Kennedy swam a 1:44.95 to finish second while Sublette County’s Paige Wright, Karsen Jessen, Sonya Legerski and Aimee Gray rounded out the top three in 1:47.91.

Newcastle’s Rachel Henkle added to her runner-up finish in the 50 free with a win in the 100 back. Henkle swam a 1:01.81 to finish ahead of Jackson Hole’s Hannah Clancy (1:02.17) and Powell’s Amanda Tracy (1:02.23) for the title.

Douglas’ Brooke Perala took home the final individual event title up for grabs, stopping the clock at 1:10.32 in the 100 breast. Cody’s Miranda Williams hit the wall second in 1:12.71, four tenths in front of Buffalo’s Nicole Thiele (1:13.11).

Jackson Hole iced their victory with a win in the 400 free relay as Hannah Clancy, Reily Gibson, Abbie Shockley and Jaime Pardee cleared 3:50 with a 3:48.28. Stephanie Liggett, Aly Schneider, Tasha McKelvey and Amanda Tracy gave Powell a second place swim with their 3:52.63. Lancaster’s Maria Kulow, Aana Haase, Jenny Nielsen and Morgan Gramlich touched third in 3:54.51.

Jackson Hole ran away with the team title, scoring 328 points to more than double the point total of runner-up Powell (166 points). Lander finished third with 149 points, while Worland (145 points) and Douglas (118 points) rounded out the top five.
