Alabama High School Champ Kobie Melton Verbally Commits to Arkansas

NEW COMMIT: Kobie Melton, a senior at Athens High School, has verbally committed to the University of Arkansas. Melton is from Athens, Alabama, and swims for Huntsville Swim Association. She’s been swimming since she was six years old and is a two time USA Swimming Scholastic All-American.

Melton swims for Athens High School where she served as a team captain last year. She’s also been a Varsity letter earner every year. Swimming as an eighth grader in 2013 Melton was a member of the team’s winning, record setting, 200 freestyle relay and its second place 200 medley relay. In 2014 she swam a record setting 1:49.97 to win the 200 freestyle relay. Melton also added a 100 backstroke bronze (56.51) to her efforts freshman year. As a sophomore in 2015 Melton was third in both the 200 free and 100 back. Last year she was the Alabama High School state champion in the 100 back, in a record setting 55.99. She was also 200 free runner up.

The NISCA All-American said of her decision,

“I chose the University of Arkansas because everything about the campus and the team felt like home. I am so excited to rep the razorbacks next year and be a part of something great. WOO PIG!!!”

Melton has NCSA, Summer Juniors, and Winter Nats cuts. Her best SCY times are:

  • 50 Free: 23.69
  • 100 Free: 50.45
  • 200 Free: 1:49.97
  • 50 Back: 25.60
  • 100 Back: 54.69
  • 200 Back: 2:03.36
  • 200 IM: 2:07.05

She’s a Olympic Trials and US Open Qualifier. In 2016 Melton finished 67th in the 100 back in Omaha. Her best LCM times are:

  • 50 Free: 26.33
  • 100 Free: 56.97
  • 200 Free: 2:05.63
  • 50 Back: 30.24
  • 100 Back: 1:03.09
  • 200 Back: 2:23.53
  • 200 IM: 2:23.96

Erin McGuirt and Svea Torres are verbally committed to the Razorbacks’ Class of 2022.
