The second day of the 2017 NCAA Men’s Division I Swimming and Diving Championships will go under way Thursday night at the IU Natatorium from Indianapolis, Indiana. Five pool events will crown a champion, while the 1m diving will also crown a champion.

Texas is the top seed in the 200 free relay and looking for its third straight title in the event. Tate Jackson, Brent Ringgold, John Shebat and Jack Conger swam this morning for the Longhorns. They will be expected to switch Shebat for 50 free second seed Joseph Schooling tonight. Florida and NC State follow them as Caeleb Dressel will be looking to swim the fastest 50 free split in history after he tied Vlad Morozov’s 17.86 at the SEC Championships. NC State will also be looking for its second relay win of the meet after demolishing the 800 last night.

The 500 free could showcase a new NCAA record. South Carolina’s Fynn Minuth leads the qualifiers at 4:09.55, ahead of teammate Akram Mahmoud. The SEC has not had a winner in the 500 since Georgia’s Martin Grodzki won it in 2012. The last two champions are also in the field in Texas’ Townley Haas (5th) and Clark Smith (4th). Michigan freshman Felix Aubock is the third seed as the top three seeds were all under 4:10. Peter Vanderkaay’s 4:08.60 from the 06 Championships could be under threat tonight.

The 200 IM will also be an intense race with Texas’ Will Licon leading the way at 1:40.50. Licon is the defending champion. He is just ahead of NC State’s Andreas Vazaios (1:40.77) and Florida’s Mark Szaranek (1:41.11). The field also features Olympians Gunnar Bentz (4th), Chase Kalisz (5th) and Ryan Murphy (7th) so the win could come from anywhere.

Florida’s Caeleb Dressel will be aiming for his 18.20 NCAA, American and US Open record in the 50 free as he enters as the top seed with an 18.38. Texas’ Joseph Schooling is second at 18.77 and Auburn’s Zach Apple and NC State’s Ryan Held are tied for third at 18.93. Dressel will be looking for his third straight title and be the first since Auburn’s Fred Bousquet to win three straight when he did it from 2003-2005.

Missouri is the top seed in the 400 medley relay with a 3:02.53 from this morning. Daniel Hein, Fabian Schwingenschlogl, Andrew Sansoucie and Michael Chadwick swam for the Tigers as they are ahead of Texas (3:03.45) and Indiana (3:03.84). It is unknown if Texas will switch out Ringgold on the anchor in favor of Conger like they have done the last two years. The Longhorns are also looking for their third straight 400 medley relay title as well as their 14th overall. Missouri is looking for its first relay win in school history.

Finals will begin at 6 p.m. EST. Follow Swimming World for all of the latest news and updates.
