USA Swimming Announces 2022 Trials Remains in April in Greensboro; TYR Pro Swim Series Scheduled for Early March Near Chicago

One day after FINA announced the addition of a World Championships in Budapest for the summer of 2022, USA Swimming has released a revised calendar of elite domestic events. The new schedule shows one additional meet and one change, but most significantly, the International Team Trials will remain in Greensboro, N.C., from April 26-30. That meet had been slated as the qualifier for the World Championships scheduled for late May in Fukuoka, Japan, and now, USA Swimming will keep the same location and date to select a team for Budapest.

Additionally, USA Swimming has added a new stop on the TYR Pro Swim Series: March 2-5 in Westmont, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago. That will mark the first stop on the American pro circuit following cancellations of meets in Knoxville, Tennessee (scheduled for mid-January), and Des Moines, Iowa (originally scheduled for the same early March weekend).

The Pro Series meet in San Antonio in late March/early April remains as scheduled, while a late June stop in Mission Viejo, Calif., was moved from June 29-July 2 (which would overlap with the new World Championships) to June 1-4.

Following FINA’s recent announcement to host its World Championships competition in Budapest, Hungary from June 18-July 3, 2022, USA Swimming today accordingly announced a few revisions to its domestic events calendar.

The first update to the calendar will be the addition of the 2022 TYR Pro Swim Series Westmont, which will take place March 2-5 at the FMC Natatorium in Westmont, Illinois. TYR Pro Swim Series competition will resume at the end of March with a stop in San Antonio, which remains in its original timeslot on the calendar, followed by the TYR Pro Swim Series Mission Viejo, which has been moved from its original June 29-July 2 date up to June 1-4.

Additionally, USA Swimming is reinstating prize money at its 2022 TYR Pro Swim Series, providing $1,500 to first-place finishers, $1,000 to second-place finishers and $500 to third-place finishers.
