Duncan Scott Leads 200 Free Heats In 1:47.22 Ahead Of Kurle, Dean & Guy At British Champs

Britain’s strength in the men’s 200 free was underlined once more as Duncan Scott headed the heats in 1:47.22 with in 1:49.65 the cut-off to make the final at the national championships.

The Olympic silver medallist split 25.00/51.50/1:18.87 before easing up on the final 50 but still headed the field.

Jack McMillan was next swiftest in 1:47.56 although the Irishman is ineligible for the final so Cameron Kurle books the second centre-lane spot in 1:47.75.

Tom Dean (1:47.77) – preselected following Olympic gold – and 2015 world champion James Guy (1:48.16) were next in prelims.

Also through: Joe Litchfield (1:48.89), Calum Jarvis (1:49.17), Matt Richards (1:49.47) and Kieran Bird (1:49.65).

Olympic bronze medallist Luke Greenbank was more than 2.5secs clear at the head of the 200 backstroke field in 1:58.24.

Harriet Jones led the 100 fly prelims in 59.11 as she looks to add to her 50 gold ahead of 200 champion Laura Stephens (59.50) and Keanna Macinnes (59.75).

Kara Hanlon was the sole swimmer inside 1:08 in 1:07.93 in the 100 breaststroke ahead of Sarah Vasey (1:08.70) and Imogen Clark (1:09.16).

Ben Proud returned the morning after second in the 50 free to book a centre lane in the 50 fly (23.71) with Jacob Peters swiftest in 23.61.

Adam Barrett – 2014 European and Commonwealth medley relay champion – was next in 23.85.
