Weekend December 6-7, 2008

This special weekend edition of The Morning Swim Show brings some of the remarkable results into one show. Host Peter Busch and Swimming World senior writer John Lohn provide perspective on just how fast some of the times have been. In the 50-yard freestyle, it has been a historic weekend for Americans. University of Arizona star Lara Jackson broke the American record twice on the first day of the Texas Invitational in Austin, Texas. The new record is 21.33. As for the men, Nathan Adrian and Matt Grevers are now the 2nd and 3rd Americans in history to break the 19-second barrier in the shortest event in swimming. Adrian posted an 18.94 in Federal Way, Washington. At the USA Short Course Nationals in Atlanta, Grevers was just a tick behind at 18.95. The big story at the USA Nationals in Atlanta has been the times turned in by a prep swimmer. Dagny Knutson, who was a guest on the Morning Swim Show November 20th, is staking claim as one the greatest female High School swimmers in history. Knutson’s latest conquest was a new American record in the 400 IM. Knutson’s 4:00.62 on Friday night beat Katie Hoff’s old record of 4:00.66. Meanwhile, American Randall Bal is making sure we don’t forget about the Eindhoven Cup in the Netherlands. Bal clocked a time of 24.33 in the 50 backstroke long course meters to crush the world record of 24.47 set by Liam Tancock in April at the British Championships.
