Hyman, an Arizona native born in Mesa, Ariz., shocked the world at the 2000 Sydney Games when she upset heavily-favored Australian Susie O'Neill en route to the 200 fly gold medal. Hyman swam for Arizona Desert Fox under head coach Bob Gillet, and also competed for Shadow Mountain High and Standford University during her time in the pool. She currently is in the hotel industry, as discussed in the interview.
