Ryan Mallam on The Morning Swim Show

April 25, 2013: Before taking off for College Station and the Texas A&M men’s swim team, Ryan Mallam joins today's edition of The Morning Swim Show to talk about making the move to Division I college coaching. Mallam says the biggest change for him in his move from junior college dynasty Indian River State College to a major Division I school is being able to work with swimmers for four years, instead of just two at the junior college level. He also talks about working with sprinter Brad Tandy, who posted some of the fastest sprint freestyle times across all college divisions, and his philosophy on keeping the sport fun for athletes. Before devoting his life to coaching, Mallam was a professional rock guitar player with a band, touring the country and appearing on television shows. He talks about the day he had to make the choice to leave behind his music career and whether he still brings out the guitar to decompress from a long day of coaching. We also bring you video of a recent performance Mallam did of “The Star-Spangled Banner” at a 2011 swim meet, which will have you thinking of the famous Jimmy Hendrix performance!
