Jan. 31, 2013: Giles Smith learned a lot from last weekend’s dual meets, and on today's edition of The Morning Swim Show the Arizona junior talks about the work he’ll do in the weeks leading up to the NCAA championships. Smith raced NCAA rival Tom Shields last weekend, discovering that much work still needs to be done to catch the reigning NCAA champion in the 100 butterfly. Since posting fast times at the USA Swimming nationals in December, Smith said he’s working on executing four good lengths of butterfly for the NCAAs, something he has yet to do in his swimming career. He talks about working with Arizona coach Rick DeMont toward that goal, and how he’s training hard to be a better freestyler to help the relays in March. Though he’s a Baltimore native, Smith talks about why he’s not a Ravens football fan, and why he’s indebted to his age group coach for making him the swimmer he is today.
