Average attendance reports from meet hosts of the USA Swimming Nationals, USA Swimming Junior Nationals and U.S. Open competitions during 1995, 1996 and 1997 were used to compile the following statistics. Expenses may be adjusted to more closely represent costs in different cities.
Hotel Revenue: 1,850 people (swimmers, parents, officials and coaches) for 6 days

Rental Car Revenue: 337 vehicles rented for 6 days

Food, Souvenirs and Miscellaneous Revenue: 1,850 people spending and average of $30 per day for 6 days

Survey Results
- Families surveyed by Swimming World report a high annual median income, falling between $50,000-$59,000
- 15.9% have an annual income over $100,000
- The higher median income could be attributed to the fact that most of the households consist of a highly educated husband and wife, who both work
- 68.2% of USA Swimming fathers have four or more years of college, and 33.2% hold post-graduate degrees
- The higher income reported by USA Swimming families enables them to purchase more of the expensive, non-essential consumer goods available to the buying public
- 90% of survey respondents found the advertisements in Swimming World to be informational and educational
- 55% reported purchasing products featured in the ads
