Alexander Stepanov enjoyed a clear victory in the men’s 800 free, negative splitting the race going 3:54.79/3:53.40 to win in 7:48.19.

Kolesnikov tied with Daniil Markov in the 50 free semis in 21.94 with the former then leading the 50 back semis in 24.19.

Wednesday evening’s finals include the men’s 50 back and free as well as the 200m breaststroke as well as the women’s 400 free and 100 breaststroke.

The event has already raised eyebrows beyond the swimming community with double Tokyo champion Evgeny Rylov being investigated by FINA after competing despite receiving a nine-month ban following his appearance at a pro-Putin rally.
