NEW COMMITS: In six hours yesterday afternoon three women made verbal commitments to swim for Youngstown State University. The Division I School in Youngstown, Ohio added Riley ErnstMallory Pitstick, and Elizabeth Wompey to the Class of 2022.

Riley Ernst

Ernst is from Hilliard, Ohio where she swims for United Swim Association. The Hilliard Davidson High School senior is fairly versatile, but strongest in the backstroke events.

Her best times include:

  • 50 Back 28.92
  • 100 Back 1:00.55
  • 200 Back 2:09.53
  • 200 Free 1:57.90
  • 200 IM 2:11.32
  • 100 Breast 1:08.41

Ernst will overlap for one year with backstroker Natalie Laurence (2:08.05) who should provide a good 200 training partner. Paris Krung (2:09.91) will be a junior when Ernst arrives next fall.

Mallory Pitstick

Pitstick will join the Penguins from Ottawa, Illinois. The YMCA Nationals qualifying breaststroker swims for Kishwaukee YMCA/DeKalb County Swim Team is a senior at Ottawa Township High School.

Her top times are:

  • 50 Breast 30.85
  • 100 Breast 1:06.26
  • 200 Breast 2:24.21

At last year’s Conference Championship Pitstick would have been a 100 breaststroke B finalist. She arrives at a good time, as last year’s senior B finalist Hannah Reynolds has graduated, and she’ll have two years to train alongside 10th place finisher (1:04.68) Tiphaine Saint-Gilles.

Elizabeth Wompey

Wompey will make the move East from Arvada, Colorado, making this already a geographically diverse class. She is a senior at Ralston Valley High School. She does her club swimming with Jeffco Hurricanes.

Wompey is a freestyler who gets better with distance. Her top times are:

  • 200 Free 1:57.52
  • 500 Free 5:12.28
  • 1000 Free 10:46.89
  • 1650 Free 17:48.67

At the 2017 Horizon League Championships Wompey would have touched 11th in the mile, picking up six points for the Penguins. She would have been on the heels of freshman Taylor Bishop. The duo will have two years to train together.
